Introduction: Day 1

Introduction

It will be great to be with many of you again.  This is a year where you will begin thinking more coherently, if I do my job correctly.  Some of you are taking this class to move forward in a vocation.  Others of you are planning to attend post-secondary education.

Either way, I promise you will look at the world in a different, and hopefully clearer way than when you began.

Below is the syllabus for each class

Language Arts Grading Policy:
Essay is due on due date
10% of grade is meeting the deadline
Late essays will be only accepted after 5 school days, otherwise they will be considered NHI (Not Handed In) and cannot be considered for credit after that
Tests/quizzes/projects will be completed for 70% proficiency.  Required re-takes must be completed within 5 school days.
Non-mandatory retakes are available, though students must take 2nd score.

Ultimately, my hope is to provide you with a fresh perspective on analyzing and dealing the real world through reading, discussion, thinking, and writing.

Benchmark Essay
Fall 2018

Directions:  Read the following article and annotate the text.  Answer the following prompt in a five paragraph essay selecting three points to support your thesis.  Use text evidence and proper MLA citation, such as (Duke et. al. 1).

Prompt:
Explain why the article came to the conclusion that one, “...may wish to maximize their productivity by defining windows of time during which they plan to be separated from their phones.”
